Collective Storytelling & Co-Stewardship

Collective Storytelling is a process by which individuals with a shared history come together to share their personal experiences and to serve as active listeners as others share theirs. It requires open and honest partnerships, a commitment to meeting people where they are, and enables us to bridge differences and move forward with enriched and expanded narratives of slavery.

Co-Stewardship at sites of slavery is a process by which descendants of enslaved communities and descendants of the enslaver family come together, as equal partners, to discern the complex and intertwined legacies of slavery.

How and by whom tells these stories matters. Each house tells a unique story. I have been fortunate to work with descendants of enslaved communities to explore the ‘what’ and ‘how’ of storytelling at historic site of slavery.
